Uses:
- Treatment of hypertension in adults and pediatric patients ≥6 years, to lower blood pressure.
- Reduction of stroke risk in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (benefit not established in Black patients in the LIFE study).
- Treatment of diabetic nephropathy with proteinuria in type 2 diabetic patients with a history of hypertension.
- Lowering blood pressure reduces risk of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and heart attacks.
Possible Side Effects:
- Common: dizziness, upper respiratory infection, nasal congestion, back pain.
- Serious: hyperkalemia, symptomatic hypotension, worsening renal function.
- Rare: angioedema, hepatic impairment, rhabdomyolysis.
