Avastin 100mg Injection
Avastin 100mg/4mL is a Genentech/Roche monoclonal antibody injection containing bevacizumab, used to treat several advanced cancers, including colorectal, lung, kidney, ovarian, cervical, and liver tumours. It works by blocking VEGF, the protein that fuels new blood vessel growth, effectively starving tumours of their blood supply. It is administered only by intravenous infusion under specialist supervision, and it is given every 2–3 weeks alongside chemotherapy. As a first-in-class anti-angiogenic therapy, Avastin has become a cornerstone of modern oncology treatment.

How It Works
- Solid tumours depend on new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) to grow beyond a small size and to spread.

Dosage, Uses & Possible Side Effects
Dosage & Administration:
- Given only by intravenous infusion, not as an IV push or bolus.
- Dose depends on the cancer type and regimen: 5–15 mg/kg every 2 or 3 weeks as directed by the oncologist.
- The first infusion is given over 90 minutes; subsequent infusions may be shortened if tolerated.
- Treatment should not be started within 28 days of major surgery and must be withheld for at least 28 days before elective surgery.
Uses:
- Metastatic colorectal cancer in combination with fluorouracil-based chemotherapy (first- or second-line).
- First-line non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer with carboplatin and paclitaxel.
- Recurrent glioblastoma in adults, and metastatic renal cell carcinoma in combination with interferon alfa.
- Ovarian, fallopian tube, primary peritoneal cancer; persistent, recurrent, or metastatic cervical cancer; and hepatocellular carcinoma in combination with atezolizumab.
Possible Side Effects:
- Boxed warnings: gastrointestinal perforation, impaired wound healing, and serious haemorrhage.
- Common: hypertension, proteinuria, epistaxis, headache, and fatigue.
- Serious but less common: arterial thromboembolism, reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS), and ovarian failure in premenopausal women.
